The Town of Southampton is one of ten townships located in Suffolk County. It is located approximately eighty miles from New York City on the South Fork of Long Island. Encompassing an area of 128 square miles, Southampton is the largest and most populous of the five East End Towns of Suffolk County. Southampton is bordered by the Town of Brookhaven on its west and the Town of East Hampton on the east. To the north are the Great and Little Peconic Bays and the Town of Riverhead. To the south are the great bays of Moriches, Shinnecock, and Mecox, the barrier beach island, and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Town of Southampton is considered a popular seasonal resort area drawing thousands of visitors and seasonal residents. Tourism and the vacation home industry drives the economic development engine of the town.
Hampton Bays is known as “The boat ways of the Hamptons”. Hampton Bays is the only Hampton to have access to all surrounding waterways. From Shinnecock and Tiana Bays, boaters can reach the Atlantic Ocean through the Shinnecock Inlet or North to the Great Peconic via the Shinnecock Canal.
Hampton Bays is known for its pristine beaches and excellent fishing facilities. We are home to the second largest commercial fishing fleet in the State of New York.
We have many activities to enjoy in Hampton Bays. Whether you are coming for the day or spending a week there is always family oriented fun. Picnic areas, volleyball courts, hiking trails, bicycling, and horseback riding to name a few. Or how about Jet skiing around the bay, camping, or chartering a boat for the day.
